At World International School Cambodia (WISC), our teachers are specialists early childhood education processes and their knowledge and experience complements the purpose built environment in our campuses to ensure every child is happy, involved and learning.

Our Kindergarten curriculum is guided by the Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore curriculum which provided a framework on which we base our process of developingand shaping age appropriate skills, behaviours and concepts for your child.

Children are naturally curious and keen to make sense of the world around them, and they learn by doing things as they participate in activities. Child initiated and teacher guided experiences enhance language development, social competence, creativity, imagination, and thinking skills. These experiences are supported by developmentally appropriate best practice and start the journey towards academic success.

Kindergarten students at WISC learn and progress through activities organized around four key themes advocated by MOE Singapore K-Care program:

  • Who am I?
  • Who are the people and what are the places around me?
  • Who do I share the world with?
  • How do things work?

These themes allow children to first explore and learn about themselves before learning about their friends, the people and places in Cambodia and subsequently, the world. As their educators, we observe their behavior and provide thoughtful engagement to take them to their natural next step. This progression is recorded and regularly shared with families.

SPECIALIST LANGUAGES IN MANDARIN FROM 36 MONTHS

Daily Mandarin and English from 36 months

WISC believesthat the phenomena of diversity in our world are trends that will continue to grow and in order to adequately prepare our children for the future one key component is good communication skills.

Competence in communication requires our children to multilingual because it is a key element of global citizenship and should be fostered from a young age. Starting in our Pre-school class (age 3+), we offer daily Mandarin instruction taught by native speaking specialists in a dedicated language environment. This is supplemented by a variety of cultural activities and celebrations to foster an early appreciation and tolerance of cultural diversity.

In compliance with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports (MOEY&S) Cambodia, we make sure that all native (Cambodian) students aged 6 start studying Khmer. This directive is optional for foreign families.  However, for foreign families looking for deeper instruction for their children, we offer the Tri-lingual Program commencing in Kindergarten 2 which aims to develop excellent communication skills in all the three languages ; Khmer, English & Mandarin. This well-established Tri-lingualProgram extends right throughout High School to grade 12.

As children complete Nursery at age 4 to 5, they are individually assessed for their English proficiency prior to entering Kindergarten 1. Children who may require English language support will be considered for the (AL) Program commencing in Kindergarten 1.

A moving child is a learning child, which is why we offer physical education as an important part of WISC kindergarten school curriculum from 36 months. What many of us don’t realize is that movement is at the core of how children’s brains develop. That is why all our class rooms are set-up to allow more space for movement and that all our students all take out to our outdoor multipurpose play areas for activities
