At WISC Kindergarten students learn and progress through activities organized around four key themes:

  • Who am I?
  • Who are the people and what are the places around me?
  • Who do I share the world with?
  • How do things work?

These themes adopted from the  MOE Singapore K-Care programallow children to first explore and learn about themselves before learning about their friends, the people and places in Cambodia and subsequently, the world.

As a result of this WISC’s approach with early learners guided by the knowledge that how children learn is as important as what they learn. The Early Years in kindergarten form a foundation for learning as children are introduced to their first experience of school. To develop a positive attitude and thrive as lifelong learners, children need to feel safe, secure, and happy in a nurturing and welcoming environment. Our approach include creating an environment where trust and security, vital to each child's success, is developed through an open partnership between home and school.

The  Singapore K-Care program ethos guide all our activities from ages 3 onwards and outlines the framework within which skills, behaviors and developmentally appropriate milestones to foster the growth of young learners will be registered as the children move on to their primary school studies.

All themes are developed as scaffold spirals to help each child progress naturally to the next level smoothly in the core areas of study - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Innovation. This provides our young children with unique State of the art learning. All developmental milestones and student growth is monitored and shared with families regularly.

The four themes that guide, activities mentioned above, clearly indicate that children learn best through hands on experiences, in an environment where they are viewed as active participants in their learning. With this in mind, we have developed an education model which combines six subject investigations where every day moments are aligned to essential discovery learning. These key investigations are woven into the Units of Inquiry as they progress through their years of early learning in our kindergarten classes from Pre- School to Kinder 2.

SUBJECT INVESTIGATIONS

Pre- school: 3 - 4 YEARS

We create a seamless transition into your child’s first schooling experience, sensitively separating from their primary caregiver. We do this by patiently introducing and encouraging your child to make independent play choices.

The second step is to gradually allow your child to enjoy uninterrupted opportunities to explore new things. While all this is going on our specialist early childhood educators guide important language development through modelling using rhymes and poems.

Nursery 1: From 4 to 5 years

At this level we introduce your child to the Singapore pre-primary learning concepts and habits of Inquiry to stimulate the developing intellect.   This is supplemented by educational rhymes, poem complemented by relative creative arts with the aim of nurturing communication skills, musical aptitude and developing fine and gross motor skills.

Kindergarten 1:  From 5 to 6 years

This is the stage when your child starts to consolidate learning in preparation for preparation for primary school through carefully planned age appropriate Inquiry Learning strategies and which lay the foundation for the holistic development set out in the Singapore K-Care curriculum.

The foundation being laid down at the Nursery 1 level also, sets the standards and expectations of primary school studies in term of your child’s transition from play-based learning into more structured learning

Kindergarten 2: From 6 to 7 years

The Kindergarten 1 level at WISC sees a continuation of the set of standards and expectations of primary school studies where students transition from play-based learning into more structured learning as the MOE Singapore K-Care program increases in the aspects that cover Inquiry, specialist time, and rigor throughout all subjects (Math, English, Science, Chinese, Values and attitude, Penmanship, Play).

Our teachers carefully monitor children’s learning by purposefully recording observations in order to understand each child and make decisions about how to best support his or her development and learning.
